Harajuku’s Image in Japan

Harajuku has always been the epicenter for homegrown styles and designs. Because of this, many people start their fashion life there; and this is the main reason for Harajuku becoming a touristy place. Now Harajuku’s touristy place is different than most cities in Japan. Harajuku is all about fashion and is always evolving, so there isn’t anything that you could buy as omiyage, or gifts. Japan’s Street Fashion

Another amazing aspect of fashion in Tokyo is that you have so many districts in Tokyo prefecture that have their own distinctive vibe. Places like these allow for Japanese people to make, create and mismatch their own styles, and show them off whenever they want. This is what makes Japanese street fashion so amazing and forever changing.

Japanese street fashion is led mostly by high school girls who have become extremely influential in controlling fashion trends. It doesn’t come from the famous professional Japanese designers, unlike most places all over the world.

Tokyo for a Day

On May 24 2015, I went to Tokyo with another intern, her host sister, a second year who lives in the same apartment complex as me, and a friend of the other intern’s host sister who isn’t in the same department.

The first place we went was Akihabara. Akihabara is famous for its many electronics shops, and many anime and gaming shops. Akihabara has gained recognition as the center of Japan’s otaku (diehard fan) culture.
